Some love stories begin in unexpected ways — sometimes years before the two people involved even realize it.

Savannah Congrove and Luke Balciunas first met as middle school cross country teammates here in Noblesville. They spent years running alongside one another through middle and high school, friendly but never particularly close. After graduation, life took them in different directions as they both left for college. Four years later, back home in Noblesville, fate stepped in.

One summer evening in 2022, Savannah and Luke each attended a concert with their families at Federal Hill Commons — neither knowing the other would be there. After the concert ended, they decided to continue the evening together, sharing a drink at Syd’s. What started as a spontaneous reunion quickly turned into something much more meaningful. Not long after, they realized the connection they’d rediscovered was something special — something worth building forever.

In April of 2025, Luke planned a surprise proposal at Cool Creek Park in nearby Westfield. Savannah believed they were simply heading out for a hike together. As they crossed a small bridge along the trail, Luke stopped, dropped to one knee, and presented the ring he had thoughtfully designed just for her. Hidden nearby, their sisters quietly captured the moment on camera.

The ring itself tells a story just as meaningful as the proposal. Designed with the help of the team at Smith’s Jewelers, the piece blends personal details that reflect both of their lives and families. Savannah chose a marquise diamond for the center stone, flanked by blue sapphires — her favorite color — adding a vibrant pop of meaning. Along the sides, delicate western-style engravings add texture and personality, while four Mariposa lily flowers feature citrine and peridot center stones chosen to represent elements of their family heritage.

A subtle fern engraving along the bottom of the ring symbolizes their shared love of nature and the many adventures they’ve already experienced together — and the countless ones still to come. For Savannah and Luke, the design process was just as memorable as the proposal itself.

Working with Christian and the team at Smith’s Jewelers allowed them to learn about diamond cuts, band styles, and custom design possibilities in a welcoming, low-pressure environment. Most importantly, they were able to bring their ideas to life and create a ring that felt entirely their own.

Today, that ring serves as a daily reminder of the thought, intention, and love behind their commitment — and the story they continue to write together.
